Husband attacked wife after row over washing-up

Martin Lingard-Carthy poured hot water over his wife’s head causing her to slip and fall to the floor and then he later pushed her out of the front door.

In a victim’s impact statement the defendant’s wife said “He knew I was recovering from surgery and should be resting.

“He is mentally unstable and I am scared of what he will do.”

Lingard-Carthy, 43, from Blackpool, pleaded guilty to assault.

He was sentenced to a 12 months community order with up to 12 days rehabilitation supervised by the probation service and ordered to pay a £150 court charge with £85 costs plus £60 victims’ surcharge by Blackpool magistrates.

He was also put on a 12 months restraining order which banned him from contacting his wife except by text for the purpose of arranging contact with the children and not entering Lune Grove except when picking up and dropping off the children.

Stephen Duffy, defending, said: “That day there was a row between him and his wife about his inability to do the washing-up. She took the view he was leaving the place in squalor. He believed he had too much to do.”
