A Wigan grandmother inspired by her husband had her head shaved to raise money for research into Parkinson's disease.

Sheila Harbridge “braved the shave” at Susan’s Salon, in Atherton, to help boost funding for research into the degenerative condition, which her husband Ron was diagnosed with two years ago.

Sheila, from Astley, was inspired to take on the task after seeing first-hand the toll that Parkinson’s takes on those diagnosed with it.

Ron, 74, was diagnosed with the disease just a couple of months after he was told he had dementia. He now requires around-the-clock care from Sheila.

The fun may be over, but donations are still being collected here
