Ms Ormerod added that Fearnhead had previous convictions for a domestic assault on a male and was on police bail at the time he committed the offence.

A victim impact statement from Ms Farrimond read: “I feel so vulnerable and don’t know what to do.

“I am scared for me and my mum.”

Karen Schofield, defending, said Ms Farrimond asked her mum, Nora, to come round as Fearnhead was being verbally aggressive.

She said: “She asks him to leave and pushes him out the door.

“Her mum tries to calm her down and they wait a while as he is still at the back door.

“He grazes his shin and she falls back on to the fridge and grazes her arm.

“He did grab her around the throat and her mum pulls him off.
