Dennis Smalley has started a 25-year sentence for multiple counts of rape, sexual assault and sexual activity with a child.

Smalley, 65, of Rutland Road, Hindley, was convicted of 44 offences, showed no emotion as he was sentenced having denied all the allegations.

The court heard that he stole the virginity of two of his young victims, getting one of them pregnant, and all his victims, some abused after grooming, have been left psychologically scarred by his behaviour.

Daniel Halpin received a 13-and-a-half year custodial term having pleaded guilty to assault causing actual bodily harm.

A court heard the 30-year-old of Darlington Street East, Scholes, had an “appalling record of violence” and battered his partner unconscious in a “particularly unpleasant domestic violence assault” in December of last year.

Stuart Rudd has now started an eight-and-a-half jail sentence having pleaded guilty to causing the horrific crash that killed teenager Isobelle Woodall in August last year.

Rudd, 39, of Walkden Avenue East, was also given a 10-year driving ban. He admitted causing death by dangerous driving, causing serious injury by dangerous driving, drink driving, driving without insurance and driving without a licence.

Former soldier Aaron Jameson-Kennedy was jailed for three years for launching an unprovoked attack on a stranger outside a bar in November last year.

The 26-year-old, of Bolton Road, Atherton, had an extra 12 months added consecutively for breaching a suspended sentence hanging over him at the time of the attack.

He pleaded guilty to inflicting grievous bodily harm and also admitted breaching a suspended sentence for common assault on his former partner and twice breaching a restraining order keeping him away from her.

Caylan Clossick received a total of three years and four month behind bars after appearing before justices after a burglary offence that meant he was a “three striker.”

Clossick of Rydal Avenue, Hindley, pleaded guilty, along with his brother Kieran Clossick, to breaking into a house in Fairman Road, Hindley, on November 3 last year.

Caylan also admitted breaching a suspended prison sentence imposed last October for burglary by being out when he was the subject of a curfew.

George Chereni was caged for six years for stalking a young couple in Wigan town centre and then attempting to mow them down with his car.

A court heard that when an off-duty police detention officer went to try to help the terrified victims the driver, Chereni, threatened her with a metal bar.

Chereni, of Kendal Road, Ince, pleaded guilty to attempted wounding with intent, dangerous driving and making threats with an offensive weapon. He was banned from driving for five years and must take an extended test before he can get back behind the wheel.
