Man shoved his fingers down partner’s throat

Christopher Buckley could remember nothing about the incident and believed something must have been put in his drink.

Buckley, a 43-year-old delivery driver, of Bedford Avenue, Cleveleys, pleaded guilty to assault and damage. He denied a further assault charge but was found guilty of the offence after a trial.

Martine Connah, prosecuting, said the couple had been in a relationship for four weeks. On May 31 they argued and he squeezed her arm bruising it.

On June 6, Buckley was at a club for his girlfriend’s daughter’s 18th birthday. Buckley shouted at his girlfriend for talking to her former partner.

He then grabbed her by the throat and pushed two fingers into her throat.

When she returned to her home she found he had scratched two televisions which would cost £2,400 to repair.

Allan Cobain, defending, said his client, who had no previous convictions, still denied assaulting his girlfriend on May 31.

Buckley could not recall the night of the party and believed something must have been put in his drink.

He was sentenced to a 12-month community order with up to 20 days’ rehabilitation to be supervised by the probation service, fined £20 and ordered to pay £500 compensation plus a £520 court charge by Blackpool magistrates.

He was also put on a two- year restraining order which bans him from communicating with his victim or entering Leicester Avenue, Cleveleys.
