Scott admitted assault, possession of cannabis, possession of Valium and production of cannabis plants in a tent at the house.

Pam Smith, prosecuting, said that Scott had not slept for two nights after taking a cocktail of drugs.

He then started to argue with his partner during which the assault took place.

“He said he would slice her neck and then started waving a hammer around saying he would hit her overt the head with it,” said the prosecutor.

The victim called the police and they found the drugs in the house.

In interview, Scott claimed the incident had been blown out of all proportion.

Hugh Pond, defending, said: “The injuries the victim suffered were minimal. She has since written to him in prison and the subject of marriage had been brought up – that is why she does not want a restraining order.”

Scott was given an 18-week jail term suspended for a year.

He must do 35 days’ rehabilition and 80 hours unpaid work for the community

He must also pay £260 costs.
