Man's kitchen knife terror
Michael Berry, from Norley Hall, was charged with wounding with intent to cause GBH for an alleged attack on Kieran Mercer and appeared at Wigan and Leigh Magistrates’ Court.
Berry, 33, was also accused of threatening Mr Mercer with the blade during the incident at Brabazon Place in Marsh Green on October 15 last year.
The court was told that Berry’s victim had sadly died since the incident took place, although from a completely unrelated set of events.
Jane Deakin represented the Crown Prosecution Service (CPS) while Colin Rawson defended Berry, who entered no pleas during the short hearing and wore a grey jumper and a black bomber-style jacket in court.
Ms Deakin told the magistrates that both the knife possession and the wounding with intent to cause GBH should be dealt with at the crown court as the two matters were closely related.
Mr Rawson said the case would be dealt with largely by hearsay evidence.
Berry will now appear at Bolton Crown Court on April 12.
He was released on conditional bail ordering him to live and sleep at an address on Thorburn Road.
He was also ordered by magistrates to stay away from Brabazon Place.
