New exhibition shines spotlight on Leigh’s creative talent

Talented local artists have come together for an innovative new showcase at an historic Wigan borough building

A new art exhibition Dot Dot Dot brings together the work of local artists Joe Kiney Whitmore, Ula Fung and Marco Frezza, all based at the historic Leigh Spinners Mill.

It is being held in the Horrocks Gallery and a new, more intimate gallery space. It is open to visitors until September 25.

Artist Joe Kiney Whitmore said the trio were really excited to be involved in the new initiative.

Joe’s large-scale, mixed-media work combines pastel, charcoal and paint, with pieces created on loose canvas.

Joe said: “My work is on loose canvas, which I'm kind of playing around with because it means I don't have to be so careful with it. I do performance-based art so it's easy to transport as well.”

Fellow artist Marco Frezza, a painter, said his work explores themes including social movements, dialectics and humanity’s place in the universe.

Mark said: "Dot Dot Dot is more than an exhibition, it's a wider project with ambitions for future projects. We're based in Leigh but it's really more about contemporary painting in the North West as a whole. We've got big ideas for all sorts of new projects, so watch this space.”

Gallery curator Angie Ryan said it was particularly exciting to see three artists from the Leigh Spinners Mill community exhibiting together in the gallery space.

Angie said: “I coordinate the exhibitions in the Horrocks Gallery and support the artist studios that we have here. It's really exciting to have three of our artists exhibiting in the Horrocks Gallery, but also using this new gallery space for the first time. Our new small space is a much more intimate for artists to display work.”

The gallery is also inviting artists to submit work for future exhibitions. Angie added: “We welcome submissions from artists to use our spaces for exhibitions. We have a whole range of artists that come and exhibit here with us. If people are interested in showing their work, they just need to contact me here at Leigh Spinners Mill.”

‘Dot Dot Dot’ is open at the Horrocks Gallery, Leigh Spinners Mill, until September 25, 2026.

Further information about the exhibition and future events is available through Leigh Spinners Mill’s website and social media.
