Wiganers will get the chance to test themselves at a new attraction inspired by the toughest obstacle course on television.

Ninja Warrior UK Adventure has begun work at its new Robin Park venue and hopes to welcome challengers of all ages through the doors from next February.

The family-friendly attraction, which is taking shape in the former base of trampoline park Oxygen Freejumping, is loosely based on the gruelling course contestants on the ITV primetime show must pit themselves against.

However, anyone wondering if they have what it takes to be crowned Ninja Warrior UK will have to fill out the application form to become a television contestant.

The team behind the new venue stress the attractions in Wigan will not be replicas of those faced by the challengers on the small screen and some of them are being created to make them suitable for as wide an age range as possible.

Despite that the idea comes with the stamp of authenticity as the station which shows Ninja Warrior UK has bought into the concept, rebranding the existing facility in Stoke in the show’s recognisable blue, white and red colour scheme.

A spokesman for Ninja Warrior UK Adventure said: “It will be much more scaled down so people don’t get injured, which they could do if they took on the full TV course.

“There will be an area for younger children aged between five and 11 and then the main room will be suitable for people from 12 years old up.

“The one in Stoke has gone down really well and people have really enjoyed it, although a lot of them have come away saying they thought it would be easier than it is.”

Ninja Warrior UK Adventure Wigan’s Facebook messages tantalising residents with information about the new attraction have proved a hit, with some comments attracting almost 2,000 shares.

The company is also recruiting part and full-time staff to work at the new venue, although it is not clear at this stage how many jobs will be created.

Ultimately based on a popular Japanese show, the assault course programme has also captured the interest of British TV viewers since it was first broadcast in 2011, with millions tuning in to watch hopefuls tackle fiendish challenges such as the warped wall and quintuple steps.
