LUKE MARSDEN: Forget walks, it's DIY helping to relieve the boredom now

I think I’ve run out of patience with walks and, at this point, I’m sure a few more of you have too.

Don’t get me wrong, as I’ve previously mentioned in this very column, Covid-19 has helped me to rediscover my love of walking; but I think that love is slowly fading.

After my recent brush with the coronavirus (still no sign of my taste and smell returning!), I haven’t been out for walks anywhere near as much as lockdowns one and two.

I haven’t been able to put a pic of the snow on my Instagram as though I’ve just discovered it for the first time and I haven’t been able to do a shot of the clouds with a moody soundtrack in the background. No I don’t know why my followers are still around either.

Like many, I’ve been working from home (WFH) since March 2020 and I’ve been sitting at my breakfast bar. After nearly a year my back has had enough: I’m walking around my house like the Hunchback of Notre Dame.

Thanks to my bubble friend, I’ve finally had the motivation to turn my spare bedroom into an office, albeit a year too late, but at least I can now bird-watch (and work obviously) from my freshly redecorated office and a bonus of having no sense of smell is that I can’t whiff a single paint fume. Every cloud!

If, like me, you’re done with walking and you haven’t already started on that DIY job in the house, (yes nobody likes glossing a skirting board but once you’ve done it and applied a second coat), take a step back and look at what you’ve accomplished.

It’s better than a blanket of snow with a filter applied and the Frozen soundtrack in the background. Not that the cold ever bothered me anyway...
