With his analogy of Jeremy Corbyn as Obi Wan Kenobi from Star Wars (WP Letters, March 3), Harry Francis is displaying the true colours of many on the left. Britain under Corbyn will be marked by authoritarianism and intolerance of dissent, where freedom of speech will not just be attacked, but vilified as dangerous to the common good. Thought crime will become a reality.If I may correct your analogy, Harry, we should think of Corbyn more as Grand Moff Tarkin, the cold-hearted leader played by Peter Cushing in your favourite film. The facts are these: Britain under Corbyn will see the doors flung open to mass immigration. Inevitable problems with integration will be compounded if the economy collapses and jobs disappear like an exploding Death Star.Corbyn is an ideologue, and when dogma is more important than people, people suffer.The worst case scenario is that attacks on this country’s Jewish community will rise as criticism of ‘Israel’ and Jewish people in general become increasingly conflated.Will he push ahead with his desire to transfer the Falklands over to Argentina? He will pontificate about shared sovereignty but any such move will be irreversible, with Argentina pushing for more. It is obvious who the Emperor is in this disturbing picture. It’s none other than the ‘arch enemy’ of the nation state and of any opposition herself... Angela Merkel. Britain under Corbyn will re-enter the Empire via the back door – and we will never get out again! Bringing the Star Wars analogy to a close, any Rebel Alliance fighting for freedom must be very cautious. Freedom of speech, freedom of religion and the protection of the British way of life will be punished in a way the left excel at: shaming and labelling to silence anyone who dares to disagree with their agenda and resist their social engineering. It’s a brilliant opportunity to show that you care about the future of our planet and want to protect the planet.I am deeply concerned about the threat of climate change. It is the biggest environmental issue the human race has ever faced and puts our planet and everything that depends on it in danger, to the extent that we could see one in six species face extinction.But whilst many people feel powerless to act, and the odds may seem to be against us, in fact the opposite is true. International agreements, government plans and business action towards restoring nature are, of course, essential, but our individual actions can make a huge contribution to future-proofing our planet, too.As a WWF supporter, I am urging your readers to consider what small changes they could make to their everyday lives– what we eat, drink, wear and drive all affect the environment. There are many ways to personally make a difference and help to reverse some of the damage caused to our planet. You could reduce the amount of meat you eat, invest in a reusable coffee cup, or say no to plastic bags and plastic cutlery. Do some of these, but also tell the politicians who represent you locally, and who want your vote, that you care about your planet. These actions might seem fairly small individually, but millions of people together will have a massive, powerful impact.I feel increasingly positive that we can restore our planet to full health. Climate change has never been higher on the agenda. The reality is it’s everyone’s responsibility to do what they can to live a more sustainable lifestyle. Cats Protection is inviting the cat-loving public to host their very own Pawsome Tea parties in April to help cats in their local area. The event, launched last year, was met with an enthusiastic response and the charity is hoping even more cat-lovers will sign up now to raise money for the thousands of unwanted cats and kittens in Cats Protection’s care.It’s a wonderful excuse to enjoy some quality time with loved ones to enjoy tea, cake and a chat while raising funds for unwanted cats.
