The latest video offering from the council’s Wigan Works scheme features a “satellite super-computer” calculating the next major business hot-spot in the UK. There are no prizes for guessing which town the “hyper-brain” chooses but council bosses hope the tongue-in-cheek presentation will strike a chord with business brains.

Coun David Molyneux, cabinet member for regeneration, said: “While our hyperbrain video is funny, our team at Wigan Council are deadly serious when it comes to attracting business to the borough.

“Wigan is open for business and our Wigan Works campaign shows we are very business-minded. We have a top class workforce ready to fulfil the new opportunities coming our way.”

In the video short, produced by council staff and targeted at business websites and bloggers, the hyperbrain computer calculates Wigan’s proximity to transport links and being part of Greater Manchester’s devolution plans as among the reasons for investing in the borough.

Coun Molyneux added: “Wigan and Leigh is a prime location for access to the North of England for logistics and distribution as the new Poundland and Nice-Pak investments show.

“We also have a wide range of employment sites available now for businesses to relocate to or to help them expand.

“On top of that we have a proactive and supportive business team who are ready to help businesses with expert advice. We also have a willing and plentiful workforce, excellent local primary and secondary schools and beautiful countryside.

“It’s clear why Wigan is an attractive place to invest, work and live.”

Wigan Works is the council’s strategy to create new jobs, attract investment, develop skills in the workforce and improve infrastructure over the next decade.
