Pensioner attacked in home by burglar

POLICE are hunting a hooded thug who burst into a pensioner’s home in the early hours, barged him aside and stole his wallet.

The 83-year-old was left shaken but physically unharmed by the attack on Christmas Eve on Park Street, Haydock.

The intruder, wearing a hooded anorak, knocked at his front door before pushing his way in at 1 o’clock in the morning, demanding money before taking a wallet containing a small amount of cash. The address has been forensically examined and house-to-house inquiries made.

Det Con Roy Waller said: “This was a particularly nasty incident but I want to want to reassure the public that officers are working hard to find the man responsible.”
