Pensioner dies after emergency services called to town centre

Police say there are no suspicious circumstances after a man died in a town centre early on Monday morning.

Emergency services were called to Lime Street in Tyldesley at around 5.45am amid concerns for the welfare of a man.

A police spokesman said: "Emergency services attended and a man in his 80s was sadly pronounced dead at the scene. His next of kin has been informed.

"There are not believed to be any suspicious circumstances surrounding his death. Enquiries are ongoing."

Nearby Elliott Street was closed to traffic earlier this morning but has since reopened.
