A fund-raising appeal in memory of a Wigan dad with a 'heart of gold' has collected more than £22k
More than £22,000 has been donated to support the family of a Wigan dad who died after being hit by a car.
Greg Campbell, 45, has been described as a “larger than life character with a heart of gold” who made a “lasting impact” on everyone he knew.
He was fatally injured in a collision with a car on Victoria Road West, in the Welsh seaside resort Prestatyn, on the afternoon of Monday, April 20.
He was taken by ambulance to hospital in Stoke, but sadly he died there on Friday, April 24.

An online fund-raising appeal has now been launched to support Mr Campbell’s family and donations have been pouring in.
Christopher Watts, who set up the appeal, wrote: “Last week, we lost someone truly special. Greg was a larger than life character with a heart of gold and his passing has left a deep void in the lives of so many across North Wales and Wigan area.
“Greg had a way of bringing people together, whether it was through his kindness, his humour or simply his presence, he made a lasting impact on everyone fortunate enough to know him.
“He was deeply loved and that love is being felt now more than ever.
“I have set up this fund in Greg’s honour to support his family during this incredibly difficult time and will contribute towards his daughter Lanie’s education fund for the future. Any contributions will go directly to the family.
“If you are able to donate, no matter how small, it would mean a great deal and if you can’t, sharing this page and keeping Greg’s family in your thoughts would be just as appreciated.
“Let’s come together for Greg!”
An inquest looking into the circumstances surrounding Mr Campbell’s death was opened on Tuesday and adjourned so further inquiries can be made.
Reporting on the hearing, the Rhyl Journal said Mr Campbell, who lived on Lessingham Avenue, Swinley, and worked as a joiner, was killed after running into the road in an attempt to catch his dog.
He suffered multiple injuries and was airlifted to hospital, but unfortunately could not be saved.
