Cafe owner's Easter goodwill to Wigan foodbank

A generous cafe owner has done her bit to help those less fortunate in the borough this Easter.

Helen Sharratt, who runs HEL’S Kitchen in Ashton has held a fund-raising raffle with all proceeds going to Ashton foodbank.

One lucky winner will go away with a feast of Easter Eggs in a hamper after customers were invited to by a raffle ticket for £1 a strip.

The hamper includes a range of other chocolate and sweet goodies to bring some much-needed cheer over Easter.

Helen, who opened the cafe and takeaway in 2019, said she wanted to help the foodbank who rely on donations and families who are struggling.

She said: “Not everyone can afford an Easter Egg as they can be quite expensive, so we wanted to give something back and donate the proceeds to the foodbank.

“I donated the foodbank a hamper around a month ago as they were asking for donations on Facebook.

“Sometimes they can be short of items, so I did them a hamper with perishable things such as tinned foods, cereals, rice and pasta.”

Kind-hearted Helen has raised more than £60 from the recent raffle this time.

She said: “We’ve been doing the raffle a few weeks and tickets have been available to buy in the cafe if customers are collecting an order, but there’s not been many people about due to the lockdown.

“It’s still more than £60 which has been raised though and we’ll contact the foodbank and decide how we want to use the money.

“We just wanted to do something nice.”
