A Post Office has opened at a church in a Wigan community.

The Postmaster for Burscough Bridge opened the service at the Living Faith Church, in Church Street, Orrell, last Tuesday.

The previous branch in James Road was closed temporarily in September 2018 following the resignation of the postmaster.

Bishop Steven Evans, who heads the church, said he was delighted at the news.

He said: “People are just thrilled and I’m delighted as it means no more odious trips into Wigan town centre.

“The demographics of this area are quite elderly so it’s not easy for people to have to get public transport.”

The service will be open on a Tuesday between 9am and noon and Thursdays from 9.30am to 12.30pm, with the church hall cafe also opening at the same times.
