Floral tributes left in memory of biker Alex Roby

Floral tributes have been laid in memory of a keen biker killed in a horror crash in Wigan.

Colourful bouquets and pictures remembering Alex Roby were lining the roadside where the 20-year-old died on Saturday (September 12).

Pictures of him on is bike, bottles of beer and cider, and a McDonald’s coffee cup and teddy bear also line the area leading to Bryn Hall Cottages.

Alex died when his motorbike collided with a metal barrier on Bryn Gates Lane, Bamfurlong.

Police were called to the smash involving a Honda CRF250 motorbike shortly after 11am.

Emergency services attended but Alex was pronounced dead at the scene.

No arrests have been made and enquiries are ongoing, a spokesman for Greater Manchester Police said.

Officers are appealing for anyone with further information to contact them and want people with dashcam footage to come forward.

Sergeant Matt Picton, of GMP’s Serious Collision Investigation Unit, said: “This was a tragic incident and my thoughts are with the family and friends of the young man who has so sadly passed away.

“Our specialist officers are supporting them at this terrible time.

“Our focus is on ensuring we discern the full circumstances surrounding this collision and to do so we need to make sure we speak to any witnesses or people who may have dashcam footage around the area at the time of incident.”

People have also taken to Facebook to pay tribute to Alex.

Mary Causey said: So so sad so young, my thoughts and prayers are with his family at this sad time, R.I.P. Alex."

Jodie Cross said: "R.I.P. Alex."

Josephine Sims Sims added: "Thinking of the family, so sad."

A fundraising page has been set-up by Lewis McGeown to raise money for his funeral, raising more than £7,000 in just one day.

It reads: "Sadly on the 12.09.20, Alex Roby lost his life doing what he loves the most!

"I have set up this page to cover the costs of the funeral.

"Let's give this boy the send off he deserves!
