The poignant tributes are located at the waterway just off Manchester Road close to Rose Street.

Matthew, 22, went missing on the evening of Sunday August 23, having last been seen at around 10pm after leaving a pub on Belle Green Lane.

A massive police operation was launched to find him but sadly officers ended the search on Wednesday after a body was found.

Matthew's death has resulted in an outpouring of grief and shock, with many tributes being paid to him on social media.

A message on one of the bunches of flowers left beside the canal said Matthew was "always smiling".
