For Makerfield read 'Bakerfield' as a shop produces a fabulous by-election cake complete with likenesses of the two main candidates

This must literally be described as the icing on the cake to two by-election campaigns.

This edible work of art has been created at the Cake Boutique in Ashton town centre to celebrate a poll which has captured the public imagination like no other and comes to a dramatic conclusion at some time on Friday morning.

It features impressive likenesses of the two main contenders – Labour’s Andy Burnham and Reform UK’s Rob Kenyon – and asks the question on the base: “Who will take the cake?"

The shop is inviting people to come and take a selfie with the “Bakerfield by-election cake,” displayed in the window, and tag them to receive a free by-election cupcake.
