One such initiative has seen Wigan Central councillor George Davies get involved with plans to do a sponsored run and walk in April, which family friend Stacey Boylan hopes to organise depending on Covid-19 restrictions.

Coun Davies, who is seeking permission from the council for the event to take place, said: “l have been in touch with the organisers who would love to do a sponsored run and walk -social distancing of course - some time in April from Wigan Infirmary through the plantations and back to the infirmary.

“I know that each event would help Alice and the families in their drive of raising their target.”

Stacey, who has helped set up a fund-raising page for Alice-Rae’s family, as well as organising raffles and getting several professional rugby clubs involved in the drive to raise money.

She said: “With the scare last year with my daughter Cassidy-Mae, as well as me being friends with Alice-Rae’s nana, I want to do as much as I can to help.

“There are four other children at home and with mum and dad unable to work now, bills, accommodation near the hospital and food costs are soon going to mount up.

“We have a lot of donated prizes and have a lot of raffles on our Facebook page as well as the just giving page.”
