The Queen’s platinum jubilee celebrations were officially launched in Wigan with a spectacular day of festivities and beacon-lighting ceremony. The sold-out event, organised by Wigan Council, took place at Haigh Woodland Park on Thursday June 2, and saw hundreds flock to the borough’s famous landmark and surrounding gardens for an enjoyable day and evening of air-show diplays, food, music, stilt-walkers and Girl Guiding activities.

A memorable time was had by many, bringing people together again in joyous unity to mark Her Majesty’s incredible 70 years on the throne.
