Inquest opened into death of Wigan pedestrian in horror crash

Her inquest was formally opened at Bolton Coroner's Court on Wednesday.

The coroner was told Ms Lythgoe, 70, was one of two pensioners who were hit by a Mini One being driven from Lowton to Leigh on Slag Lane.

She was taken to hospital but died a short time later.

A post-mortem examination found Ms Lythgoe had suffered serious injuries to her head, chest and abdomen.

The other woman involved in the crash was also badly hurt and had to be treated in hospital.

The proceedings into Ms Lythgoe's death will now continue on October 9, when a date for a full hearing is expected to be set.
