Cat DAscendis, 38, is aiming to walk for six hours tonight in Hindley.

She said: “I’m going to start my journey at 9.47pm when the sun sets and I will be doing 5k loops until 4.44am when the sun rises.

“I’m raising money for the NHS because of everything that’s going on. It’s good to give something back. My sister is a nurse and contracted coronavirus. She is fine now but I thought I would try to get some money raised.”

Cat, who lives in Bickershaw, said she was “excited” for the challenge but hoped the forecast rain stayed away.

She previously set the world record for the fastest female gingerbread to run a marathon, which she did at the London marathon in 2017, and broke the half marathon record a few months later, raising hundreds of pounds for charity Burning Nights.

As Baroness Barran said in a House of Lords debate this week on the importance of journalists: "Not only are they a trusted source of facts, but they will have a role to play in rallying communities and getting the message across about how we can keep ourselves and our families safe, and protect our NHS. Undoubtedly, they have a critical role."
