A masquerade ball organised by Daffodils Dreams raised £20k to help people in Wigan

“This was our last ball, which made it even more special, but we have lots of plans for other events.”

An impressive £20,000 was raised to help people across the borough at a glittering masquerade ball in Wigan.

Daffodils Dreams CIC hosted the event at The Brick Community Stadium and welcomed guests wearing beautiful gowns and tuxedoes - as well as masks.

The ball included a meal, auction, raffle and entertainment, including a magician, string trio and showgirls.

The money raised will support Daffodils Dreams’ work across the borough, which includes providing essential clothing and bedding for individuals and families in need, and offering opportunities for children though support for proms, Easter and Christmas initiatives, and after-school activities.

Founder and CEO Maureen Holcroft said: “What a night! To raise £20,000 and then wake up to so many lovely messages was quite overwhelming. People had enjoyed themselves, danced their socks off and gone home knowing they had helped make a difference.

“I always had a vision of how I wanted the room to look and the evening to feel. Seeing it all come together, with so many people there supporting Daffodils Dreams, made me quite emotional. There was so much love in that room.

“Behind that total are people we can help — a child needing clothes, a family without bedding, a young person who deserves to enjoy their prom, or someone who just needs a warm welcome and a brew. That is what makes all the hard work worthwhile.”

She thanked everyone involved in the ball, including director Noreen Bond, volunteers, sponsors, prize donors, catering staff, entertainers and those who attended.

Maureen said: “This was our last ball, which made it even more special, but we have lots of plans for other events. The support, kindness and generosity people have shown will stay with me.”
