The discount retailer plans to build the supermarket on land to the south of Woodhouse Lane.

Although the residents of the estate on and behind Whitworth Way said they support the new store, they have some concerns about the entrance being on a minor one way in, one way out road, and the impact that would have on traffic.

One resident said: “The residents of the estate on and behind Whitworth Way, are fully opposing the car park entrance for the proposed Lidl, for various reasons.

“We are excited for the new Lidl, however not so excited about the entrance being on a minor one way in, one way out road.”

He said that they are currently arranging banners, leaflets and door to door campaigns to raise awareness of the development to residents in the area.

Coun Stephen Dawber, who represents the area on Wigan Council, said the concerns from residents would be taken into account.

It comes after Lidl revealed details of the plans earlier this month.

The food store would extend to 1,882 sq ft internal area with a net sales of 1,175 sq ft, while it would have 80 parking spaces and a dedicated in-store bakery.

Jobs would also be created within the new

store.

Lidl bosses hope a planning application they have submitted will be received and validated by Wigan Council by the end of July.

The store would lie on a site which is bound by Woodhouse Lane to the north, Whitworth Way to the west and to the east and south by the new Canalside residential development. The land is currently undeveloped.

The site will feature an attractive glazed frontage and a large car parking area with high quality

landscaping.

Access to the site will be from Whitworth Way.

Proposed opening hours for the store would be Monday to Saturday between 8am and 10pm and Sundays and Bank Holidays would be 10am to 4pm.

Residents can have their say on the plans by visiting the Lidl website.

Lidl have not responded when asked by the Wigan Observer for comment.
