Rotary clubs join massive regional effort to supply protective kit to hospice and care homes

The personal protective equipment (PPE) has gone to eight hospices and 22 voluntary care homes, including some in the borough, after the Rotary clubs in the organisation’s North West District chipped in more than £8,000.

The Rotary clubs in Wigan, Astley, Leigh and Tyldesley with Atherton were all involved.

Rotarian Adam Vause, a member of Astley Rotary Club, said: “We wanted some do something to help our communities in these tough times.

“The health and caring services are in dire need of this PPE equipment, especially in the care homes, and this was the least Rotary could do.”

Masks and visors were donated locally to Ashwood, the Belong care villages in Atherton and Platt Bridge, Montrose Hall, Cardinal Heenan House, Kingshill, Lime House, Wigan and Leigh

Hospice and Abbeyfield Care Home.

Brian Prescott, from the Newton and District Jubilee club which serves Culcheth and the surrounding areas, transported the equipment to its Wigan and Leigh destinations.

Hannah Holmes, ward nurse at Wigan and Leigh Hospice, said. “We are so appreciative of everyone that has been working really hard supporting us.’’

The region's Rotary clubs are now working on delivering tablet computers to hospices to help patients communicate with their families..
