Crews were called to a small car park on Wigan Road in Leigh at around 12.30am on Tuesday.

They found a Peugeot Expert well alight.

Firefighters wearing breathing apparatus used cutting equipment to get into the van and a hose reel to extinguish the flames.

The blaze had started in the driving compartment but had also spread into the rear storage area, causing so much damage that the van was a write-off.

The incident is being treated as suspicious and Greater Manchester Police (GMP) attended the scene.

No-one was around at the time but emergency services did receive reports of people leaving the scene shortly before the fire crews arrived.

The fire crews were there for around an hour.
