The Wigan borough locations taking part in Heritage Open Days

A host of venues across the borough will be putting on events as part of Heritage Open Days.
The annual event, which takes place across the country from September 6 to 15 is England’s largest festival of history and culture.
It is a chance to discover places usually closed off to the public and try out new experiences for free.
Here is a guide to some of the venues that will be opening up and hosting events across the borough
1. Guided musical walking tour- Museum of Wigan Life, Rodney Street
The tour will cover 3km over 40 minutes and will explore Wigan's unique musical heritage with music linked to local bands and commentary from local young people who co-curated the tour content, played through headsets. Church will be open for visits. People will be available to explain its history. It will be possible to access the Peace Gate and the Bell Ringing Chamber. There will be a Churchyard Tour. Refreshments available. Takes place on September 7. Pre-booking required Photo: Photographer Michelle Adamson
3. St James with St Thomas Church- Poolstock. Wigan
Climb the tower steps and enjoy a Bell ringing experience. See the experts at work and maybe have a go yourself. Visit the beautiful church and enjoy a free tour. Faith cafe open on a pay as you feel basis. Takes place on September 14. Book on the day Photo: Google
