Cheeky Champs, who are based in Hindley Green, are inviting tots between the ages of 18 months and four to take their first steps into the beautiful game by signing up to their sessions at The Boys Brigade Hut in Thomas Street.

Every child’s first visit will be free of charge - with classes that tailor for all ages running every Friday and Saturday morning.

During the sessions, children will learn the basics of football from dribbling, passing and shooting in a fun and non-pressured environment held by FA qualified coaches.

The local initiative was founded by former sports coaching student Beth Jones in March 2015 after she was inspired by working with young children during her time coaching in America.

Beth, 26, identified that there was a potential gap in the market after she noticed that children did not have a place to learn the basic football skills in the local area.

She set-up her own local football business - and it proved to be an instant success as it became a local hotspot for children who wanted to learn to play football.

It has benefitted so many children in their development as both footballers and individuals and Beth is hoping that she can get even more children involved.

Beth said: “I’d love to get more children from Wigan beginning to play football in an safe and fun setting like ours.

“It’s honestly such a fun sport, and there’s no better feeling for myself and the other coaches to see the smile beaming on our children’s faces when they’re playing.

“It makes all the time we spend worthwhile, and it drives our hunger to grow our sessions and get more kids involved. Cheeky Champs is a perfect introduction to sport as a whole.”

She added: “We allow our toddlers imagination to run wild through the games that we deliver.

“The sessions are extremely popular so I’d recommend getting on the waiting list for as soon as your child turns 18-months.”
