In this round-up of borough eyesores we highlight 15 of the worst and longest-running examples, although you will read that there is hope that at least some of them will have been struck from this shaming roll call next time round.
It speaks volumes about the changing face of the hospitality industry that so many of these places are derelict pubs, clubs and restaurants.
13. Building on King Street West, Wigan

14. Former Bridge 63 pub-restaurant, Red Rock
It's nearly two years since exciting plans were unveiled to revive the fortunes of Bridge 63 - yet another Wigan canalside pub-restaurant that fell on hard times. Yet despite the developer's reassurance that work was well under way, there has been little sign since of its being taken off the grot spot list any time soon Photo: Kelvin Stuttard
15. The Famous Pagefield, Springfield
In its pomp The Famous Pagefield in Springfield was one of the grandest hostelries around. Planning applications have been made before to give it a new lease of life, albeit no longer as a pub. The most recent were to turn it into homes and a shop in 2019, but so far it remains another hospitality relic Photo: Michelle Adamson
16. Star car wash
For years it was the ABC service station, later the Star car wash. Nowadays the site on Pottery Road is used as a car park, but its old features, including an increasingly decrepit canopy, an arson-hit kiosk and collapsed fencing makes for an ugly sight, not least for anyone living in those new town houses across the canal Photo: GSV
