A Wigan community came together for the unveiling of a special memorial dedicated to war heroes.
Veterans, volunteers and members of uniformed organisations were among those who saw the ribbon being cut to officially open the new display at Garswood Hall Bowling and Community Club.
It was created using hundreds of poppies knitted by volunteers, following an appeal on social media by club treasurer Debbie Cason.
She said: “I put an advert out on social media for people to get their knitting needles out and start knitting and this is the result. It’s been absolutely fantastic, the response that we have had, not just from our own club members but from the wider community. It has been astonishing.
“I think it’s beautiful, it’s absolutely beautiful.”
Money raised through the display and fund-raising activities will be given to Wigan Veterans Association.
