This week we launched our We Are Wigan campaign to celebrate everything and everyone that is good about our borough.

So many people came forward to highlight those who have made a difference for them during the pandemic, showing the amazing community spirit across Wigan.

There were relatives and neighbours who have been shopping or cared for children, NHS staff working tirelessly to provide vital healthcare and employees delivering essential items and even a few treats.

The generous acts of these people, whether big or small, really do show why We Are Wigan.

Margaret Smethurst: My faithful friends, always at the end of the phone, ready to listen and have a natter and a laugh. Thank you.

Margaret Anderton: Wonderful neighbours in St Andrews Drive. Helpful. Cheerful. Friendly. Caring. Can’t thank them enough.

Katie Barber: Wigan Neonatal Nurses, they are true superheros all day, every day regardless of if there’s a pandemic or not. They saved my little girl’s life and kept her fighting for me.

Lisa Morris: The A Team have continued to be as creative as possible within the restrictions to support our children with autism in accessing support and sessions throughout the pandemic. Although it isn’t what our children would normally access it allows them to have their sensory needs met, provides an opportunity for parents to have a chat and get support from staff and most importantly feels like a tiny piece of normality for the time we are there. Thanks everyone at A Team xxx.

Scott Broadhurst: My neighbour Michael Cooke running to the shop for me while I’m home with a back injury and home schooling.

Gaynor Dagnall: Chris Hill.. Westhoughton Assist ... Helping families all round the area..x

Beverley Balfour: Shirley Balfour, she works at Woodlands Court in New Springs. She has worked all the way through the pandemic whilst herself being positive twice for coronavirus. She was is so caring towards her residents and has missed out on cuddles with her newest granddaughter (my daughter). Daisy with her being born in October. She is so selfless and puts everybody else before herself so I’d like to celebrate her!
