And so too has the commemorative plaque which was unveiled by the Princess of Wales on her visit to Wigan in November 1991.
The memory box was placed in the foundations of the mall by local schoolchildren who made contributions to its contents in 1986, while construction was in its early stages.

When she died tragically six years later, it became the focal point for local grieving as floral tributes were left underneath it.
Today the shopping centre, owned by Wigan Council, is surrounded by metal hoardings and fencing in preparation for its demolition before it is replaced with the £135m Galleries25 project.
The new complex will see the site focus on leisure, hospitality and accommodation as well as retail.

A spokesperson for Wigan Council, said: “The plaque from the original opening of the Galleries will be safely removed and stored.
"Plans are being made for the future display of the stone, and for the reburying of the capsule.”
It has been speculated that the plaque may end up at the Museum of Wigan Life on Library Street.
