Based in Standish and Appley Bridge, Motown aerobics is a fun-filled aerobic work-out where people can get fit while enjoying fabulous motown music.

With all sessions cancelled due to the coronavirus pandemic, aerobics instructor Lisa Kelly has taken to delivering her sessions online free of charge, allowing people to continue strutting their moves.

This was possible as Ms Kelly was allowed to film a session in Standish Methodist Church recently, which has gone onto YouTube and appeared on the group’s Facebook page.

The 54-year-old, who is from Standish, said: “We stopped the sessions a week before the lockdown and are based in Standish and Appley Bridge.

“We’re hoping to re-open again once this is all over, but we had a film crew from Cash Productions who were allowed into the church and they filmed a full one-hour session, which has gone onto YouTube and our Facebook page.

“We’ve had lots of positive feedback and thanks from the people who’ve been able to follow the session.”

The YouTube video has had more than 600 views.

And Ms Kelly is planning on filming two other 10-minute sessions for elderly people in the coming days.

All sessions are free to watch, but donations can be made online to the NHS or charities.

She said: “One session will feature 1950s music and doing hand jives in a chair and another will be a 1960s motown theme standing up.

“Aerobics is a form of exercise where you’re basically jumping up and down to music and it’s motown in our sessions.People can go on our Facebook page and website and access the sessions.”

She added: “We’ve only been going since September so this is a way of our members still being able to enjoy sessions online.

“Hopefully we’ll be able to get going again soon.”
