Wigan author brings a modern twist to Robin Hood in his sixth book

A Wigan author who has already published five books is looking forward to launching his first full-length novel.

Stephen Corless, from Pemberton, has written an updated version of Robin Hood, which sees the legendary character face a number of 21st Century problems.

Entitled R06yn, the book features cat fishing, car theft, equity release which goes wrong, cannabis growing, online gaming and more, and culminates in a trial for treason.

Stephen said: “He is very much the computer whizz and armed with his magical amulet, an arrowhead found in Sherwood Forest, performs near miracles to help people out of trouble.

"He assists the cyber crime team, headed by DCI Littlejohn and works alongside DS Errol Finn and DS Kevin Costler.

“Other characters include head of Merseyside police Len Dodd, WPC Celia Black, PCs Saul MacCarty, Ritchie Starkle, Geordie Harrison and John Lenyon.

"So far it has been well received and people are impressed that I managed to get Shirley Combs, of the Pink Detective Agency, to write the foreword.”

Stephen will launch the book at the next meeting of Wigan U3A, which will be held at Wigan Cricket Club at 10.30am on Wednesday, November 20.

He will have other merchandise with him, including his five previous books.

Stephen is the founder and honorary president of Wigan Ukulele Club and will also have CDs available featuring his music.
