Residents across the borough have experienced delays in waste collections this week, due to the dangerous road conditions caused by days of snowfall and icy temperatures.

Earlier this week, Wigan Council said it was working hard to catch up with the backlog. Residents were asked to leave out any uncollected bins, which would be seen to as soon as possile.

On its social media channels, the local authority has today (December 31) reiterated its message, following another night of snowfall. It said: "Our waste crews have tackled very challenging conditions this week.

"Unfortunately, due to today's weather, collections may be limited.

"Please leave your bins out as usual and we will get to them as soon as we can."
