It’s fair to say Twisted Wheel Brew Company has experienced an eventful first six months of trading.

Having opened in October 2019, the Standish-based family-owned and family-run micro-brewery had a full beer calendar planned - with an exciting range of cask and keg along with cans.

Unfortunately, the Covid-19 pandemic has nipped those plans in the bud, leaving something of a problem to be addressed.

Not that having a spare 17,000 pints of beer would be considered by many to be much of a problem!

But Mark Dearman, who covers the sales part of the business, has come up with his own three-point plan to put the surplus stock to good use.

“We’re going to let the beer go for donations only,” said Mark, 53.

“And half of the money will be handed over to the Joseph’s Goal charity, which is based here in Standish.

“That way we claw back some of the money we’ve spent on the production and we’re able to support a wonderful local cause.

“Also we’re obviously hoping those who sample the beer will love it, and will come back for more when we reopen.

“It would be such a waste to have to pour it away and this is the perfect way to make the best out of an unfortunate situation.”

Twisted Wheel Brew Co was borne out of ‘a love of great beer and Northern Soul’, and it’s a real family affair.

Mark’s wife Helena handles the accounts, while daughter Laura is involved in the production and social media

Laura’s sister Charlotte doesn’t work full time for the business, but she helps out with social media.

Mark continued: “We quickly established a loyal following supplying to pubs throughout England and Wales - which was testament to our beer.

“But then the unexpected happened – Coronavirus. So the rug was pulled from under our feet, just as we were getting into our stride.

“As a lot of businesses have had to do, we’ve changed our focus for the short-term, and are now concentrating on packaged beer delivered to your door. As soon as it’s safe to do so and the lockdown is lifted we will be back stronger than ever supplying our loyal customers the best beer possible, whether that’s pubs or our new found fans at home.”
