Stefan Barnes will take on the daunting challenge in August to raise money for the charity which supported his mum Anna Hollingsworth before she died with cancer in 2018.

The 24-year-old, who lives in Worsley Mesnes, will set off from Wigan on August 9 and aim to be in his mum’s hometown, Norwich, four days later.

Apart from an assistance vehicle, Stefan will be taking on the ride solo, and is looking forward to showing his gratitude for the charity which helped his late mother.

He said: “[Macmillan] really supported my mum through her cancer days, they supported her for about two years. I just wanted to do something to support them, so I thought of the cycling challenge.

“I thought it as a good way to support them.”

He went on: “I’ll be stopping in Chesterfield, Grantham, Kings Lynn and then on to Norwich.”

Stefan has been getting ready for his cycling challenge by riding mile after mile in recent weeks, including a journey to Blackpool last weekend.

He said: “I’m a bit daunted but looking forward to it. It will be hard work but I’ll get there!”
