She was given the bombshell news that she had a grade three tumour two months ago.

The mum-of-three, 25, has had two rounds of chemotherapy and may need to have a double mastectomy as she battles the disease.

Now to raise money for a wig for his sister following the chemotherapy, Stephen was joined by his friends Phillip Prescott and Ryan Davies, in taking on a walk of more than six miles in swelteringly hot outfits.

It saw them hike from the Gerard Street car park in Ashton to The Prince of Wales pub in Woodhouse Lane, Wigan, on Saturday.

They have raised around £400 while another £2,100 was generated by a fund-raiser at The Prince of Wales.

The pub’s money-spinner saw a raffle helped by Wigan Warriors legend Andy Gregory, while there was an auction and performances from live singers.

Neighbouring pub The Belle Vue Inn also competed in a “sponge the landlord” competition, with £2,500 raised in total from the events.

Money will go towards Natasha’s wig and any remaining funds will be donated to cancer charity.

Stephen, 26, from Pemberton, said: “The whole fund-raiser was so Natasha can have a natural made wig.

“This will help her have a better quality of life.

“She has three little children so it’s a big struggle funding the cost of it.”

Stephen said he was delighted to raise so much money.

He said: “It was a shock and devastating as you don’t expect to have cancer at that age .

“Natasha has had two rounds of quite aggressive chemotherapy so far which she responded badly to but she’s been told she has a good prognosis and will recover.

He added: “I’m just delighted with how much money we’ve raised and we’ve done really well.

“I’d like to thank everyone who has was involved with raising money for such an important cause.”
