A post on the festival’s Facebook page said: “Starsailor frontman and solo artist James Walsh is performing on the opening night of the festival!

“James is set to reward his fans with some fresh new material as part of his brand new EP Renewal. It’s one not to be missed.”

Starsailor formed at Wigan and Leigh College and will go on tour in October to mark their 25th anniversary, when their debut album Love is Here will be played in full with a string ensemble.

James is also forging a career as a solo artist and released his latest album It’s All Happening in January.

The 21st annual Bolton Food and Drink Festival runs from Friday, August 28 to Monday, August 31 in Bolton town centre and features numerous stalls selling food from around the world, demonstrations by celebrity and regional chefs, live music, children’s activities and more.

Performing on the same day as James will be Billy Bibby, founding member and lead guitarist of Catfish and the Bottlemen.

Other headline acts will be The Real Thing on Saturday, August 29 and Liberty X on Sunday, August 30.

Organisers are continuing to announce more live acts taking to the stage over the weekend.

It is free to attend and tickets are not needed.
