The long, summer days are starting to shorten and parents may be running out of ideas - and money - to entertain their children, but Wigan borough has plenty of green spaces perfect for a visit.
Among them are several recognised by the Green Flag Awards, which rewards well-managed parks and green spaces across the UK.
Currently celebrating its 30th year, the Green Flag scheme is the internationally recognised standard for parks and green spaces.
A number of beautiful parks across the borough have secured the award, as well as a stretch of the Leeds-Liverpool Canal and two sites managed by community groups.
These could be great places to visit if you’re looking to make the most of the end of summer.
