Wigan postman successfully completes amazing 60-mile run for two important charities

A postman has successfully run an impressive double marathon from Skipton to Wigan, all in an effort to raise money for much-needed charities.

To the average person, a 60-mile run on a Saturday morning could be their worst nightmare, but this is not the case for 43-year-old Chris House.

He set off from Skipton Castle and finished at The Boathouse in Appley Bridge.

The run was completely unsupported, with Chris carrying everything he needed and navigating his way to Appley Bridge.

Despite the bad weather, Chris managed to finish the run in just over 11 hours, starting at 6am and finishing at 5.15pm.

This brutal challenge was done in an effort to reach a £1,000 goal for Andy’s Man Club and Appley Bridge’s Meadows green space.

Chris said: “The two charities were there, which was great, and there were lots of people including friends, family and colleagues.

"It was a great reception to get back to after a hard day of running and it was all worthwhile because of the two brilliant causes.”

Andy's Man Club is a charity that co-ordinates weekly peer-to-peer support groups for men in the UK.

The Meadows, in Appley Bridge, is a scenic community-managed area featuring woodland walks, seating and allotments nestled between the Leeds-Liverpool Canal and the River Douglas.

Chris has now surpassed his goal donation and has currently raised more than £1,500 collectively.

On how tough he found the run, Chris said: “Anything when you’ve got the wind against you all day is tough and also when you get a couple of slight navigation problems with that level of distance, but that’s when you’ve just got to dig in and get it done.

"There’s nothing better than completing something like that and just having friends, family and all the people in the village come out. It was a special day.”

Postman Chris is due a well-earned rest, but is instead now getting ready for the brutal Pennine Barrier event in just two weeks time, which includes a 50-mile race across the Yorkshire Three Peaks.
