PC Bucys and PC Pickavance were responding to an incident in Ashton at the end of June, during sweltering temperatures of up to 30c, when six-year-old Guy decided he wanted to help them keep cool during their shift.
With the help of one-year-old brother Mason and mum Katy, he left sports drinks and snacks for the two officers on the windscreen of their van, along with a message of “stay safe.”

The post said: “Officers returned to their van yesterday after dealing with an incident, to find this generous gift and lovely message from two young boys, Guy and Mason.”
They added: “It’s the small things like this that make the biggest difference to our officers. Thank you Guy and Mason.”
Guy said: “The police were very hot working, and they needed a drink, that’s why we did it!”

“They were parked nearby our house so we nipped over.
“In the times we’re living in, I think the police are very undervalued.
“We thought we’d show our appreciation, and left them a little treat.”
The parched officers were delighted by the gesture, and paid a visit to the family home to thank the schoolboys.

“Another police car arrived too and we gave them a drink as well.
“They thought it was lovely. One of the officers said ‘you’ve warmed my heart’”.
Katy added: “I think [the police’ are very undervalued, a massively underfunded resource. They need to be appreciated, not just now but all the time.
“They’re under a lot of stress. If a six-year-old boy can have those ethics and values, so should adults.”
