Wigan teenager takes on cycling challenge for foodbank
The 15-year-old was determined to help after finding out that relatives of his fellow pupils at The Byrchall High School in Ashton have been to receive emergency food parcels due to being strapped for cash.
Jack, who lives in Whelley, got in the saddle and set himself the task of riding 130 miles over the month of November.

Proud dad Alan said: “There was a bit of talk about helping the foodbank at school and Jack was quite upset when he heard that families whose children go there use it.
“He decided to do this 150-mile bike ride. He did it going round the local area over the month.
“We also set up a fund-raising page, but it has been a crazy year and a hard time for everyone.

“Jack didn’t want it to be just about asking for money, he wanted it to be open to everybody.
“Kids, especially teenagers, aren’t always seen in the best of lights these days, but Jack has a heart of gold and he just wants to help.
“There wasn’t a lot of help when I was young, so I’m really proud that my son does that.”

His efforts will eventually result in more than £900 going to the food bank as Alan has agreed to match-fund the total he raised.
