Jake McKechnie performed Broken Strings, originally by James Morrison and Nelly Furtado, in Saturday evening's episode on ITV1.

The 16-year-old appeared to impress the judges, with several singing and dancing along, but none of them turned their chairs to give him a chance to progress in the competition.

It means Jake, from Orrell, will not enjoy the same success he had in junior version The Voice Kids UK, where he reached the final in 2017.

That show catapulted him to fame, attracting fans around the country and securing him shows at venues across the borough.

Afterwards, Jake said on Instagram: "Well that was fun! It obviously wasn't the outcome I was hoping for but it was the most incredible experience being able to sing on The Voice stage again, and what a privilege it is to be on both versions of The Voice in the UK.

"This is probably the bit when I'm meant to say how gutted I am about it, but in all honesty I'm not because the response so far has been amazing and Icouldn't be more thankful for the support.

"Please feel free to watch my audition as much as you want, this one is definitely a lot better than on The Voice Kids, but for now, that's me done."
