Woman injured as car collides with telephone mast and lamppost on Wigan road

Firefighters were called to the scene at around 11pm.

They found a white Vauxhall hatchback on its side next to the lamppost, with which it had collided.

The fire service said the car had also collided with a telephone mast.

People in the area had already helped a woman out of the car by the time fire crews arrived.

She was treated for deep lacerations to her head and legs and required treatment from the North West Ambulance Service (NWAS).

Police closed the road while the emergency services made the scene safe and the route did not reopen until after midnight,.

Highways engineers also had to be called to check the lamppost for damage.
