Police appeal after early hours robbery

Detectives in St Helens are appealing for information following a robbery in Haydock in the early hours of this morning.

At around 12.30am, a 31-year-old man was walking towards his car, which was parked in Tesco’s on Bellerophon Way, Haydock, when he was approached by three men. The men started talking to the victim, who then got in the car. The offenders began kicking at the car and rocking it, before he was dragged out and chased him across the car park. The victim dropped his bag which was taken by the offenders, who then returned to the victim’s car and drove away in it.

The victim was uninjured but left shaken by his ordeal.

The offenders have then driven the car, described as a red Fiat Panda, registration number PK54 YJP, in the direction of St Helens town centre.

The offenders are described as being white, in their late teens or early 20s, wearing dark clothing with black baseball caps and facial coverings. They spoke with local St Helens accents.

CCTV from the car park and surrounding areas is being examined and enquiries are on-going.
