At 11.30am on Thursday February 4 an 85-year-old woman was inside Barclays bank on Market Place in the town centre and had withdrawn money from the cash machine when a man approached her.

He told her he had dropped a ten pound note, so the woman picked it up for him.

The woman then continued on her journey, not realising that the man had stolen her debit card. The victim received a call the next morning to confirm that she had withdrawn £2500 from her account and it was then that she realised her debit card was missing.

PC Douglas Craigen said: “The victim is an elderly woman and has been targeted by cruel thieves would have been able to see her vulnerability.

“The CCTV images are very clear and someone will know the men pictured. We are keen to speak to them in connection with this incident, so if you recognise them I would urge you to contact police as a matter of urgency.”
