However, police say they have received no reports of a missing child in Haydock.

Inspector Steve Gavin said: “I can confirm that no child has been reported missing in the Haydock area tonight (Sunday 24 April 2016).

“Officers have been carrying out enquiries in part of Haydock this evening after two young children reported what they belived was a suspicious incident in a local park to a parent who in turn called the police.

“However I’d like to reassure the local community that no reports have been made to us of any child having failed to return home this evening.

“The two young children did exactly the right thing in telling an adult what they think they saw and we are grateful to the parent for passing the information on for us to look into further.”
